This month, I’m excited to feature Nassybah Touriño of Nussay Art. As an entomological illustrator, Nassybah creates detailed and accurate depictions of insects, blending scientific precision with artistic skill. Her work showcases the complexity and beauty of these often-overlooked creatures, highlighting their role in the natural world. My name is Nassybah Touriño and I'm the hands behind Nussay Art. I was born in Granada, Spain. I started studying art but never finished and although I always kept Art as part of my life, it wasn’t until I moved to Madison, Wisconsin that I started creating on a regular basis and sharing my illustrations on Instagram. I realized then, that people liked them and took the chance to quit my regular job to fully follow my dream of becoming a freelance illustrator. I started dedicating my life to following my passion and learned along the way how to manage a business.

In 2019 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and had to move back to Spain to be closer to my family and get treatment. After this difficult period, I moved to Mexico to have a slow life and started leading Watercolor Workshops in the magical forest of Chiapas. Now, I find inspiration in the beautiful nature of Chiapas's biodiversity. My work has been featured in product design, stationery, textiles as well as wholesale and private commissions.

3 Tips for Painting Insects:
1. Get familiar with insect anatomy, learning a bit about it will make painting them easier!
2. Prepare your colour palette before starting to paint. This will help you avoid distraction while you are painting, (this applies to all kinds of illustrations).
3. Add as many details as you can! Insects and their unique patterns are intricate and capturing as much of this detail as possible will bring your paintings to life.

Illustrating insects allows me to observe the tiniest details and reproduce these beautiful creatures for people to have in their homes without harming them. Also, children are the future of tomorrow and we need to teach them the importance of these small dwellers of our world. In a world crowded by screens and technology, parents need to teach children about the importance of nature and biodiversity. My illustrations have inspired bug love in over 1000 homes, encouraging positivity about these often feared little creatures.
